Summer brief (Fashion) - Black Moniker analysis.

As looking from a designer's prospective, I think it is important to have a professional style to your business / company. I think this plays a big role in a companies success as this will separate or enhance the company from competitors. Hopefully this will also create a hierarchy amongst other fashion companies.

Summer brief (Fashion) - Pitch

Over summer, I contacted the clothing brand Black Moniker to see If they had and need for a graphic design.

As my research theme is 'How can a graphic designer work in the fashion industry.'

Luckily they replied stating they are looking for a designer, so I wrote up a pitch to show them what I feel I could bring to the company.

Summer brief (Fashion) - Photo shoot

Photoshoot:

During my work experience at Rockfield media, I was working on a project for a Fashion brand called 'Mancini', so I asked the owner of Rockfield media if I could come along to a photo shoot, to research first hand how a fashion photo shoot works.

Unfortunately, there was no photo shoot for Mancini when I was on my work placement, however they said I could come along and help with the Bolton Wanderers photo shoot, so I would know how a photo shoot works in general.

Before the photo shoot I did the sketches for Rockfield, to present to Bolton Wanderers so we knew what outcome we was looking for before the shoot. We could also show this the Bolton to see if they approve.

When I got to the Macron stadium, I was asked to set up the blue screen and this was the first time I have ever done so.

For this photo shoot I needed to set up the...

Stands / Support kits
Rod pockets
Screen Backdrop
Lighting / Flash cannons

I took some shots of the players at first with the whole setting for my portfolio.

I knew what shots I was looking for from using the sketches I did before the shoot.

This arm folded shot was inspired the the world cup line-up poses before the games started.

We decided to do a few random shots of the players doing tricks to see if we could catch a good, unique shot.

This taught me that you could be experimental and spontaneous with a shoot to try make something your own and unique.

We was looking for eye contact in most of the shots to add a serious / professional look to the photos.

As this player had the new popular boots, we used this player as the main focal point.

The main problem I found with this photo shoot was some of the players did not bring boots, so some of my sketch designs would not be able to be fully completed.

All angels of the kit needed to be tacked.

These included...

Fully body - front, side and back.
Zoomed in - front, side and back.

This is the kit close up that could be used for my blog, portfolio and brochure pieces.

I was told to take some random shots around the photo shoot to see if I could capture and other shots for the brochure, so I got close up shots of the kit and ball.

Shot like these could be used for social media and my blog so I got as many as I could to get a good variety.

FINAL SHOTS.

These are the final shots from the shoot, edited on Adobe Photoshop to get the colour correct.

After I was happy with the colours of the photo shoot, I cut the players out to complete my design shown in my sketches.

Summer brief (Fashion) - Fashion student

Jacob

"Colour and shape is a good place to start. Choose a shape and a colour and build your project from that. Like say if you chose triangles. Try and get examples of triangles at exhibitions and in nature and use these to inspire designs."

Summer brief (Fashion) - Fashion student

In my first year on the Graphic Design course, I was asked by a fashion student, Liv, if I could help out with her Fashion project.

Summer brief (Fashion) - Changing - Fashion, 'How can a graphic designer get involved in the fashion world'.

I first started my summer brief researching into how Music and Celebrities influence tattoo design.

With what I wanted to research into, I found myself looking at too much secondary research sources as Its hard to look into Celebrities and their music without looking into secondary resources.

I have decided to change my topic to fashion, researching into 'How can a graphic designer get involved in the fashion world'.

Overall I think this change is positive for me as I feel a lot stronger about fashion than I do about tattooing.
